The Dam and Reservoir
Altınkaya Dam is a large-scale hydroelectric facility built on the Kızılırmak River for power generation. The reservoir it created has a surface area of about 118 square kilometers and a water storage capacity of 5.76 billion cubic meters. The reservoir spans a wide area across the boundaries of the Bafra, Vezirköprü, and Durağan districts.
Nature and Scenery
The mountainous, rocky topography of the Kızılırmak valley became a dramatic canyon landscape as the reservoir's waters rose. Forested slopes along the shoreline provide habitat for local wildlife, and the contrast between the calm water surface and the surrounding rugged cliffs makes for a striking view.
Visiting
Viewpoints along the roads circling the reservoir offer sweeping views of the lake. For nature photography, peaceful walks, or exploring the region's geography, Altınkaya is one of the standout stops among Bafra's natural attractions.
