Çetinkaya Bridge

Construction and History

The construction contract for Çetinkaya Bridge was signed on July 30, 1935, and building work began in the spring of 1936. The bridge was completed on October 15, 1937, and formally opened in a ceremony held on Thursday, November 4, 1937. As one of the early Republic's major engineering works, it was built with the support of the then Minister of Public Works, Ali Çetinkaya, after whom it is named.

Architectural Features

Built according to the engineering standards of its era, each arch is supported by multiple piers and girders.

Significance Today

Connecting the two banks of the Kızılırmak River, the bridge contributed to the region's transportation and trade over the decades and gradually became one of Bafra's landmark structures. Illuminated at night, it remains one of the city's most photographed spots.
