A Wetland on the Delta's Western Edge

Karaboğaz Lake is a wetland in the western part of the Kızılırmak Delta, made up of a lake covering roughly 1,500 hectares together with the extensive reed beds surrounding it. Straddling the Bafra and Alaçam district boundaries, it forms one of the parts of the delta closest to the Black Sea coast and is characterized by dense marsh and reed cover.

Bird Diversity

One of the richest bird habitats in the Kızılırmak Delta, Karaboğaz Lake and its surroundings provide resting, feeding, and breeding grounds for hundreds of bird species. The area has been included within protected zones where hunting is prohibited, helping safeguard the sustainability of its bird populations.

Visiting

Offering ideal conditions for birdwatching, especially in winter and spring, the lake's reed-lined paths and quiet setting make it a favorite stop for nature lovers touring the Kızılırmak Delta.
