The Legendary Amazon Women
According to ancient Greek mythology, the Amazons, a legendary tribe of warrior women, were believed to have lived near the Thermodon river basin (today's Terme Stream) close to Samsun. Inspired by this legend, Amazon Village is an open-air museum built on a small island within West Park (Batı Park) in Samsun's İlkadım district.
Wax Figures and Reconstructions
Spread across roughly 2,500 square meters, the village features wax figure scenes depicting the daily life, battle preparations, and cultural practices of the Amazon women, along with carved rock chambers and traditional yurt-style tent structures. Visitors can walk through sections connected by narrow paths and bridges to see these reconstructions.
Visitor Information
Since Amazon Village sits within the coastal section of West Park, it is easily reached via the park's walking paths. Visitors can also get off the light rail at the Baruthane or Fener stops and walk a few minutes toward the shore to reach the island. The site appeals both to history enthusiasts and families with children.
