Cumhuriyet Square

History

Cumhuriyet Square is one of the two major squares in Samsun's İlkadım district and sits at the center of the city's commercial, social and cultural life. The oldest surviving photographs of the square date back to 1931, and its appearance has changed considerably alongside the city's growth.

Present-Day Use

Today the square is one of Samsun's busiest public spaces, surrounded by public buildings, financial institutions and shopping centers, and served by a tram stop. National and religious holiday celebrations and community events are largely held here.

• Within walking distance of Atatürk Park, the Statue of Honor and Saathane Square
• A major public transport interchange

Since 2021, urban renewal and renovation works have continued in the areas surrounding the square.
