Sadi Lodge Kuva-i Milliye Museum

History

Sadi Lodge (Sadi Tekkesi) is known as the home of Sheikh Sadi Efendi, one of the founders of the Samsun Society for the Defence of Rights, and served as one of the Kuva-i Milliye (National Forces) headquarters during the War of Independence. Before the historic meeting in Havza, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk secretly met here with a handful of Samsun residents to draw up the first resistance plans against bandit raids.

Restoration and Museum

Following restoration work started by Samsun Metropolitan Municipality in 2013, the lodge opened to visitors in 2016 as the Kuva-i Milliye Museum, featuring wax figures and audio-visual presentations. The thematic complex — comprising the lodge building, a memorial house, a diorama museum for the fallen, a cafeteria and five courtyards of varying sizes — received an award in the National Struggle Museums category at the 2018 Museum Encouragement Awards presented by the Union of Historic Towns.

Visitor Information

Located on Çifte Hamam Caddesi in Selahiye neighborhood, in the city centre, the museum is easily reached by public transport.
