Dere Mosque

History

Dere Mosque is a wooden mosque built in 1805 in Kavak district. Kavak is known for its wooden mosques constructed using the traditional "çantı" log technique, and Dere Mosque is one of the surviving examples of this local building tradition. The structure has been the subject of academic research, including a restoration project proposal examining its architectural features and conservation problems.

Architecture

Like other wooden mosques of the region, Dere Mosque is built entirely of timber and has largely retained its original character for more than two centuries. The log-frame "çantı" technique common in Kavak's rural neighborhoods forms both the structural system and the decorative texture of these buildings.

Visiting

Located near the Kavak town center, Dere Mosque can be included in a route together with other historic wooden mosques of the district, such as Bekdemir Village Wooden Mosque. It remains an active place of worship used by the local community.
