Natural Formation
Şahinkaya Canyon lies about 17 kilometers from the center of Vezirköprü district. It is a striking canyon roughly 3.5 kilometers long, carved by the Kızılırmak River through steep limestone cliffs. Numerous natural caves can be seen along the canyon walls, and the contrast between turquoise waters and rugged rock faces makes it one of Samsun's most remarkable natural landscapes.
Protection Status
The canyon and its surroundings were declared a national tourism development zone by Council of Ministers decision in 2012, and designated a nature park in 2015. This protected status aims to preserve the area's natural character while allowing controlled tourism.
Activities
Visitors can explore the canyon by boat tour, canoe, or on foot along the shore. The area is also suitable for camping, picnicking, nature photography, birdwatching and amateur fishing. Şahinkaya Canyon hosts the annual extreme sports event known as "Falcon Fest."
