Taceddin Paşa Mosque

History

Taceddin Paşa Mosque stands in the Çanaklı neighborhood of Vezirköprü and is also known as Kurşunlu Mosque (Leaded Mosque). According to an Arabic endowment deed dated 23 May 1495, held in the archives of the General Directorate of Foundations, it was commissioned by İbrahim Paşa, son of Hacı Beyzade Mevlana Safiyyüddin — hence its alternate name, Taceddin İbrahim Paşa Mosque.

Architecture

The complex has a spacious walled courtyard containing a prayer hall and an imaret (guesthouse) section, with fountains in front. Its original plan is known to have included two domes in front of the mihrab and five domes over the portico.

Destruction and Restoration

The mosque was severely damaged in the 1943 earthquake, which completely destroyed the dome in front of the mihrab, the portico and the minaret. Local residents repaired it on the surviving walls in 1955, and a comprehensive restoration led by the General Directorate of Foundations, begun in 1989, was completed in the early 2000s, returning the mosque to worship in its original form.
