Atakum Coastal Route

About the Route

Designed for anyone who wants to explore Atakum's coastline from end to end, this route follows the shoreline starting at the Seyir Terası (Viewing Terrace) near the district center and finishing at Çatalçam Beach on Atakum's western edge. Because the eight stops line up along roughly the same stretch of coast, the route works equally well by car or by bicycle — the dedicated bike lane running along the shore road makes it especially pleasant for cyclists.

Route Logic, Getting There and Timing

It makes sense to begin at Seyir Terası: sitting slightly above the shore, it offers a first look at both the sea and the general layout of the coast ahead. From there the route continues to İnci Beach, Atakum Beach, and the City Forest just behind it — since the forest sits a little inland, it's a good spot for a shaded break. Heading further west, the route passes the Aquapark, Huzur Beach, Çakırlar Grove, and ends at Çatalçam Beach. Driving takes about 25-30 minutes end to end, or 1-1.5 hours by bike; but if you plan to linger at each stop, allow half a day (4-5 hours) for the full route. The total distance along the coast is roughly 18-20 kilometers.

Best Season and Time of Day

The route is most enjoyable between June and September, especially in the late afternoon, when the coast cools down and the light is best for photos. The Aquapark only operates in summer, so leave it off your list for a spring or autumn trip. Spring and autumn, meanwhile, are better for a quiet, cool bike ride away from the crowds.

Local Tip

Free parking is available at most stops along the coast, but the areas around Atakum Beach and İnci Beach fill up quickly on summer evenings — starting early, or running the route in reverse from Çatalçam, makes for a more relaxed trip. The wooded area of the City Forest is the best shaded spot on the coast to cool off at midday. With short distances between stops, splitting the route across two days is also a reasonable option, especially for families with children.
